Overview
TasteWorld is a self-directed concept build for a restaurant-discovery brand. The goal was to move away from the templated look most food-discovery sites share, and design something that reads as editorial and cinematic while still doing the practical job of helping someone find a restaurant.
Challenge
Most restaurant directories default to the same pattern: a search bar over a stock photo, then a grid of cards. The challenge was keeping that same job — search, browse by cuisine, compare ratings — while making the experience feel considered rather than generated.
Approach
Full-bleed food photography anchors the hero, paired with a serif display headline and a functional search bar so the page reads as a brand first, a directory second. Scroll-based parallax and staggered entrance animation carry that tone down through the categories, restaurant listings, and gallery.
Design
A warm, moody dark palette with a gold accent, a serif display face for headlines against a clean sans for UI, and card-based restaurant listings that surface rating, review count, and location at a glance.
Development
Built with React 19 and Vite, styled with Tailwind CSS v4, and animated with Framer Motion for scroll-linked parallax and staggered reveal animation. Custom hooks handle the parallax math and animated stat counters, and a masonry gallery component handles the mixed-aspect-ratio photo grid.
Responsive Experience
Layout, imagery, and the search experience are rebuilt for mobile rather than simply scaled down — the hero, category rail, and gallery grid all reflow for smaller viewports.
Final Result
Deployed and live at tasteworld.vercel.app as a personal proof point for motion-driven design on a content-heavy, image-led site — not a real business; the restaurant listings are illustrative, not a live directory.
